Tim Davie, director general of the BBC, resigned from his position after a controversy was revealed over the manipulation of a video in which Donald Trump appeared to encourage his supporters to storm the Capitol. The American President celebrated the resignation and classified Davie as a very dishonest person.
MADRID, Nov. 9. (EUROPA PRESS).- The general director of the British network BBC, Tim Davieand the CEO of the News section, Deborah Turnesspresented their resignation in the midst of the controversy over the broadcast of a fragmented speech by the President of the United States (EU), Donald Trumpin which he seemed to explicitly encourage his sympathizers to storm the Capitol during the January 2021 raid on the headquarters of the North American Legislature.
“The BBC is working well, but some mistakes have been made and, as CEO, I must take final responsibility,” Davie wrote in his farewell letter, published by the same British media.
Davie assumed the role in September 2020, after serving as CEO of BBC Studiosand leaves the chain after 20 years of service.
Manipulated montage and pro-Palestinian bias
The diary The Telegraph was in charge of uncovering the controversy by publishing details of a leaked internal memo from the BBC suggesting that the program edited two parts of Trump’s speech with a manipulated message. The document was signed by Michael Prescott, a former independent outside adviser to the station’s editorial standards committee, who left the position in June.
Trump’s original phrase, “We are going to march to the Capitol and we are going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen,” became, after passing through the editing room of the documentary program Panorama, in “Let’s walk to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you. And
we will fight We will fight like demons,” and was broadcast last year. The two sections of the speech that were edited together were more than 50 minutes apart.

The memo also noted that the Arabic service of the BBC was exhibiting a pro-Palestinian bias during its coverage of the Gaza war and deliberately “censoring” reactionary conservative voices in the gender identity debate to “address the
trans experience without balance or objectivity as a celebration of diversity while ignoring the complexity of the issue.
In his resignation letter, Turness wanted to take the opportunity to forcefully reject these latest accusations. “While mistakes have been made, I want to make it absolutely clear that the recent accusations that BBC News has an institutional bias are false,” he said before blaming what happened exclusively on the editing of Trump’s statements.
“The continuing controversy surrounding the program Panorama about President Trump has reached a point where he is causing damage to the BBC, an institution that I love,” he concluded, “and the responsibility falls on me.”
In the first institutional reaction of the British Government, the Minister of Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy, thanked Davie for his years of service. “He has led the BBC through a period of significant change and has helped the organization cope with the challenges
challenges he has faced in recent years,” Nandy wrote in a statement on his X account.
“Now more than ever, the need for reliable news and high-quality programming is essential to our democratic and cultural life, and to our place in the world,” he added.

The president of the BBC, Samir Shah, regretted Davie’s resignation on what he considered a “sad day for the BBC”. In his comment to the network he directs, Shah said he understands the “constant pressure that Davie is under, both personally and professionally, which has led him to make this decision today.”
Trump celebrates resignation
After the news broke about the resignation of the general director of the BBCthe President of the United States, Donald Trump, celebrated this event and thanked The Telegraph for having uncovered the controversy about the manipulation of his speech.
“The senior officials of the BBC, including Tim Davie, the CEO, resign/are fired for being caught tampering with my excellent (PERFECT!) speech on January 6th. Thanks to The Telegraph for unmasking these corrupt journalists,” said the US president through a message published on his Truth Social platform.
The Republican also described the managers of the British network as “very dishonest people” who had the intention of influencing the last presidential election.
“As if that were not enough, they come from a foreign country, one that many consider our main ally. How terrible for democracy!” Trump concluded.
